Sama is a remote valley lying below Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world. It takes 6 days to trek by foot into Sama from the nearest road. Many families, monks, and nuns struggle to earn the money they need to buy the food they cannot grow to survive the cold mountain winters.
For centuries these mountain people have woven rich and colorful rugs from hand spun sheep and yak wool. These thick and soft rugs are used to sit and sleep on. Vibrant colors and traditional Tibetan designs bring beauty and warmth to the homes of Sama.
